Hello and welcome to the Valladar website. my name is Joanne Stockbridge and I live in the beautiful semi-rural area of Carmarthenshire, South Wales. With nature reserves, woodlands, mountains and fields near by there are plenty of places for a vallhund and owner to enjoy, and we normally do.
I first came across the breed in 2008 while looking online at different dog breeds I would one day like to own. I was never allowed a dog as a child and was at one point afraid of them. When I moved to Wales I attended college to study various animal care courses. It was on this course my love of dogs truly came forward. Having to work with Great Danes soon got me over my fear of dogs and I would spend much of my spare time looking up different dog breeds. So by time I was ready to have a dog of my own I already knew exactly what breed I wanted.
In 2009 I put my name down with Sharon Sibley of Thorjakker for a puppy, and in 2011 I finally welcomed my first Vallhund into my life and have never looked back. She was everything I wanted and has been my constant companion ever since.
I have been a member of the Swedish Vallhund society since 2009 and registered the affix Valladar with the Kennel Club in 2014
I work as an animal tech at the college where I studied animal care (NC, ANC, HNC) and HND animal science. I do not own/breed dogs to make a living, sadly there are many puppy farms in Carmarthenshire. We do compete in and enjoy conformation shows and flyball however my dogs are my pets first and foremost. Living in my home, visiting friends and family, occasionally coming to work with me and even sleeping in my bed at night.
All Valladar dogs will be fully health tested before breeding including the newly released DNA marker test as health is very important to us. We only breed ocasionaly mainly when we want a puppy back for ourselves and aim to improve and preserve this wonderful breed for future generations.
